Butterflies?!

Each year in May and June, the kindergarten classes spend time studying and 'hatching' butterflies.  We also plant herbs, vegetables and flowers in our Kinder Garden.  When a Bannatyne parent (Madame Laurel Rose) offered some milkweed seeds to our classes, we jumped on the opportunity to combine the two themes for what promises to be an amazing spring.  All four classes will have the chance to prep the seeds for frost, to help them germinate when the ground starts to thaw, and to finally plant them to create a home and food supply for our own 'pet' caterpillars and butterflies.  Here are pictures of Madame Laurel presenting the seeds to the classes.

Experimenting with Colours and More Vocab

We started experimenting with mixing colours today.  This is the first of many explorations we will do with colour-mixing.  The kids used pipettes to mix primary colours (blue, yellow, red) to create secondary colours.

We've also been working on learning our colour vocabulary with songs and SmartBoard games. Here is another vocabulary video to help your little student practice their colour words at home:

Catchy Songs and BLEU

Today we played some more colour games on our SmartBoard and celebrated BLEU!  Also, check out these songs that we have been singing in class and ask your child to perform them for you. Be careful, though. They're very catchy! I guarantee you'll be humming them all day tomorrow.

Colour Days - Rouge

Today we celebrated ROUGE!  We built a ladybug in our colour book and played a colour game on the SmartBoard.  And check out all of these red snacks!!  We even had one little cutie with his hair sprayed red!  It was a great kick-off to our week.

We started our colour centres today.  Each centre highlighted a different colour and helped us practice a different skill:

Red Centre: Fun with playdough!

Orange Centre: The kids used tweezers to pick up letters that were hidden in orange rice.  They spelled their names and the raced to find hidden letters.

Green Centre: Painting a plant using liquid tempra

Yellow Centre: Crowns with yellow accessories

Blue Centre: Magic Sand
